Who I am

I grew up on a small farm outside of Tabor City, North Carolina.  My father is a Southern Baptist Minister and my mother along with several other family members were also educators.  Both history and education has always been very important to me.  That is why I decided to become an educator and to teach others the importance of our history and where we have come from.  I am a Middle School Social Studies Teacher at Royal Live Oaks Academy Charter School based in Hardeeville, South Carolina. In 6th Grade Social Studies, students will be learning about Part One of World History covering Ancient Civilizations to the Age of Exploration. In 7th Grade Social Studies, students will be learning about Part Two of World History covering the Exploration Age to the Present. In 8th Grade Social Studies, students will be learning about the State History of South Carolina from the 1500s to the Civil Rights Movement. All classes will be taught with different forms of Instruction from quizzes/tests to major projects. I must stress as a teacher the importance of Project Based Learning that helps accelerate the growth of historical knowledge for students. As the mission statement says at Royal Live Oaks Academy, ¨No one deserves to fail. Every child should taste success.¨ I will be helping all students to the best of my ability to achieve this goal.
